Breast Reduction
Breast
reduction is one of the most gratifying cosmetic surgery operations. Women with
large, sagging breasts may experience a variety of medical problems caused by the
excessive weight of the breasts, including back, neck and shoulder pains.
In addition to physical discomfort, bra straps typically cut into the shoulders.
Large breasted young women often feel embarrassed and avoid participating in sporting
activities. They often adjust their clothing to conceal the large size of their breasts.
During breast reduction plastic surgery, the plastic surgeon removes fat, glandular
tissue and skin and remodels the breast to a beautiful shape with better position
of the nipple areola complex, in proportion to the rest of your body. The surgery
is performed under general anaesthesia and/or sedation with local anaesthetic infiltration,
with an overnight stay in the clinic.
Surgery length is one to two hours, and swelling, bruises and numbness are common,
but temporary. The cosmetic surgery incision is dependent on the shape and size of
your breasts; the post-operative scars can be reduced to minimum and they fade away
with time.
As a result of the surgery, breast feeding may not be possible. The operation does
leave scars, which fade over a period of time, but the incisions are designed to
be covered by a bikini top. The desirable size and shape of the breast to be sculpted
during surgery is a topic for discussion during the pre-operative consultation.
