Breast Implants
Tiny
breasts are a major concern of many women. Therefore Breast enlargement is
one of the most popular procedures in plastic surgery. Breasts implants
can improve size, shape, volume and asymmetry and indeed produce beautiful
breasts.
About the procedure
A pair of implants is inserted into the breasts through surgical
incisions. Several incisions are available and the merits of each one will
be discussed with you during consultation. The most commonly used incisions
for breast cosmetic surgery
include the armpit, around the areola or at the junction of the breast
and the chest. The implant can be placed in a pocket created behind the breast
or behind the muscle.
Surgery length is between 60 and
90 minutes under conscious sedation with local anaesthetic or general anaesthesia.
Breast plastic surgery can be performed on a day basis.
Recovery is usually uneventful
and you can return to full physical activity in a couple of days. Minimal to
moderate discomfort in the first few days can be controlled by pain killers.
About breast implants
All breast implants are encased within a silicone shell. Breast implants can
be filled with either saline solution (physiological salt water) or silicone
gel and are either smooth or textured. Silicone is a bio-compatible material
that has been in use for many years for various medical and surgical applications.
Breast Implants are produced in various shapes, textures and sizes. Choosing
the correct size and shape of implant for your own cosmetic surgery would be
a process you would go through with Dr Fayman during your consultation. The
decision will be affected by your desires, weight, body shape and other personal
considerations.
What about the scars?
Dr. Fayman’s aim in breast cosmetic surgery
is to achieve minimal scarring. Various techniques are available and the best one
will be selected for you depending entirely on your personal features and desires.
Under the arm – the incision is placed
in the armpit and has the advantage of leaving no scar on the breast.
Under the breast – the incision is
placed in the shadow beneath the breast.
Areola incision – this incision is
placed in the interface of colour on the border of the areola.
